Lyceum of the Philippines University-Batangas (LPU-B) set sail on a course for a stronger partnership with the Norwegian Training Center/Norwegian Shipping Association (NTC/NSA) on May 8, 2024.
A benchmarking visit and reviewing of the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) brought together key stakeholders from both institutions. Representing LPU-B were Mr. Frederick C. Badillo (Senior Vice President/Vice President of Finance), Dr. Conrado Dotong (Assistant Vice President for Academics and Research), and Dr. Capt. Alexander Gonzales (Executive Dean for LIMA Academic Operations). Additionally, members of the LIMA Council and Technical Committee were present.
Captain Joe Tomren, Managing Director of NTC, extended a warm welcome to the LPU team. Mr. Larry Gonzales, NSA Cadet Manager, then introduced other members involved in the Cadet Training Program.
To maximize efficiency, the LPU-B team went into action stations. One group charted a course for revising and improving the MOA, ensuring a clear and beneficial agreement for both parties. Meanwhile, the other group embarked on an exciting exploration of the state-of-the-art facilities at the Norwegian Training Center. They even interviewed the “crew” there, learning valuable insights into their best practices and industry standards.
This innovative approach, combining MOA review with a benchmarking exercise, strengthens the partnership between LPU-B and NTC/NSA. It not only ensures a well-defined agreement but also allows LPU-B to learn from the best, ultimately enhancing the educational voyage for its students.
