Bachelor of
Science in Marine Transportation

Bachelor of Science in Marine Transportation is a four-year program with a curricular structure of 3 years of academics and one year of onboard training. It is a higher education degree program that deals with the study of navigation, cargo handling, and stowage, controlling the safe operation, and care for persons on board the ship at the operational level.

LEVEL OUTCOMES

Graduates of the Marine Transportation Program are expected to attain the following objectives 3 to 5 years after graduation: 

  • Shall have been recognized marine deck officers in accordance with the IMO-STCW ’78 standards as amended, other national and international laws and conventions. 
  • Shall have been socially involved marine deck officers who actively contribute to the development and advancement of the local, national and international communities. 
  • Shall have been initiated and contributed to the advancement of the maritime profession and industry as marine deck officers who actively engage in continuous professional development, training, and research. 
  • Shall have been engaged in lifelong learning to keep abreast with developments in the field of specialization and/or profession.

The graduates of the BSMT program shall have acquired the knowledge and competencies necessary to perform the following: 

  • Demonstrate competencies of Officer-in-Charge at the operational level.
  • Use appropriate techniques, skills, and modern tools in the practice of the profession in order to remain globally competitive.
  • Apply knowledge in mathematics, science, and technology in solving problems related to the profession and the workplace.
  • Wok in multi-cultural and/or multi-disciplinary teams. 
  • Demonstrate professional and ethical responsibilities.
  • Communicate effectively in speaking, writing, and presenting using culturally appropriate language.
  • Engage in lifelong learning to keep abreast with developments and contemporary issues in the field of specialization and/or profession.
  • Conduct research aligned with the Maritime Profession.
  • Apply knowledge of physical, social, natural sciences, and humanities in the practice of the Maritime Profession.
