Medical Laboratory Science also known as Medical Technology is a branch of laboratory medicine dealing with the examination of body fluids and tissues with the use of various chemical, microscopic, and bacteriological methods. It involves the application of principles of natural, physical, and biological sciences to the performance of laboratory procedures, which aid in the diagnosis, prevention, prognosis and treatment of disease and maintenance of health.

Diploma in Phlebotomy is an embedded program in BSMLS as an exit point after two years of study. There is a conferment of a diploma during the graduation ceremony.

LEVEL OUTCOMES

Graduates of BS Medical Laboratory Science program are expected to attain the following objectives 3-5 years after graduation: 

  • have passed the licensure examination; 
  • demonstrate competence in the performance of laboratory tests in aid of diagnosis, treatment, monitoring and management of diseases.  
  • exhibit an attitude of professionalism and leadership in collaboration with other disciplines and membership in professional organization; 
  • commit to lifelong learning through continuing education; and 
  • participate in research and community extension activities to develop knowledge of health, disease, healthcare management, and education. 

The graduates of the BS MLS program shall have acquired the knowledge and competencies necessary to perform the following: 

  • Demonstrate technical competence in the performance of clinical laboratory tests in aid of diagnosis, treatment and management of diseases vis-a-vis biosafety and waste management.
  • Demonstrate analytical and critical thinking skills in the workplace.
  • Engage in the collection, analysis and protection of health information for improving the health care management system.
  • Demonstrate interpersonal skills, leadership qualities, and ethical practice of the profession.
  • Apply research skills in relevant areas of Medical Technology/Medical Laboratory Science practice.
  • Participate in community-oriented activities.
  • Engage in life-long activities.
  • Demonstrate effective teaching and communication skills.
  • Demonstrate responsible citizenship and pride in being a Filipino
  • Apply knowledge of physical, social and natural, and health sciences and humanities in the practice of the profession
