in English Language Studies

The Doctor of Philosophy in English Language Studies program covers the recent development in psychology in language and learning, advanced discourse analysis, advanced literary criticism, curriculum design, language testing, and evaluation, and research in language and literature. Students are provided with adequate learning activities and experiences on researches in literature and language to come up with expected desired lifelong learning competencies that will enable them to be good practitioners and teachers of language and stewards of cultural and educational growth and development in the local and global arena.

The complete program curriculum for Doctor of Philosophy in English Language Studies

Three (3) to five (5) years after graduation, alumni of PhD in English Language Studies shall: 

  • have contributed to the academic research production which can help in the development of the most innovative practices in the current panorama of English studies; and
  • have become local leaders in the field of education as tenure-track faculty in universities and teaching colleges, as well as secondary English language arts curriculum specialists for school districts, Department of Education and private education agencies. 

By the time of graduation, PhD in English Language students shall have the ability to:

  • produce, publish and review quality researches that produce innovative results in the field of English language learning, reading and writing practices, and English language arts curriculum and instruction development; 
  • demonstrate a broad theoretical and applied preparation in the acquisition and use of English in a multicultural context; and 
  • gain broad linguistics, literary and cultural knowledge to express and share by serving leaders with professionals from different areas. 
Program Educational Objectives (PEO)
