On September 27, 2024, the Lyceum of the Philippines University (LPU) community gathered at Manila Memorial Park to honor the 106th Birth Anniversary of Dr. Sotero H. Laurel, a distinguished politician, educator, and visionary whose contributions have significantly shaped the university’s legacy. This special day was a heartfelt tribute to the legacy of SHL, bringing the entire LPU community together in reflection and gratitude.
Dr. Laurel played a crucial role in the founding and development of LPU, ensuring that it remained committed to providing quality education rooted in patriotism and leadership. His dedication to academic excellence and nation-building continues to inspire generations of Lyceans.
Attended by the Laurel family and some of the LPU Management team, the celebration was marked with various activities by Lyceans from several LPU campuses, including a holy mass, tribute and testimonials, and a tribute song.
The holy mass was led by Fr. Rolando Perfecto, the LPU-Manila Chaplain, setting a solemn and reflective tone. The program continued with moving testimonials from Lyceans representing their respective campuses. Ms. Ann Margaret F. Lumanglas of LPU-Batangas and Ms. Alexandra Ambunan of LPU-Cavite shared their admiration and gratitude for the values instilled by SHL. More testimonials followed, with Ms. Mariane Shaine Aguimbag of LPU-Manila and Ms. Karla Denise Gonzalez of LPU-Laguna, both student leaders, reflecting on the impact SHL’s vision on their academic journeys.
Additionally, Mr. Jan Andrei Magpantay, a BS International Hospitality Management student from LPU-Batangas and a champion of Tuklas Tinig 2023, performed a tribute song. His performance was a highlight, capturing the essence of SHL’s enduring influence.
The program concluded with a flower offering by all attendees, symbolizing their collective respect and remembrance. Atty. Roberto P. Laurel, President of LPU Manila, Cavite, and Makati, delivered a heartfelt closing message, emphasizing the continued relevance of SHL’s ideals in guiding the institution forward.
As LPU continues to grow and evolve, the legacy of Dr. Sotero H. Laurel remains a guiding force, reminding the Lycean community of the importance of integrity, service, and the pursuit of knowledge.
