New Maritime Officers, New Image of Filipino Seafarers!
During the historic ceremonial oath-taking of officers on May 20, 2015 at the Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) central office, Dr. Maximo Q. Mejia Jr.-MARINA Administrator hailed the new marine deck and engine officers who passed the licensure examinations conducted by the agency. Mejia described these new passers as the “new image” of Filipino seafarers.
MARINA is now conducting the maritime exams in accordance to Republic Act No. 10635 it is also single maritime administration to implement and enforce the 1978 STCW for Seafarers Convention, as amended
Among those who took their oath as OIC-NW passer is LPU Batangas alumnus John Ray Maralit Espina. Espina is among the new officers who were the first to accomplish the assessments with the new system, he is a Magna Cum Laude graduate of BS Marine Transportation (2015) from the Lyceum International Maritime Academy (LIMA).
LIMA is among the 23 accredited schools nationwide by the MARINA.
