On August 30, 2024, the Lyceum of the Philippines University-Batangas hosted representatives from the Institute of International Education, Inc. (IIE) as part of its ongoing efforts to support the USAID/Burma Diversity and Inclusion Scholarship Program (DISP). This visit further solidified the collaboration established through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed on May 27, 2024, between LPU-Batangas and IIE.
The primary focus of DISP is to support current and future community leaders from Myanmar, particularly those from vulnerable groups, by providing access to quality higher education. This includes offering regional and local higher education scholarships and expanding learning opportunities through various modalities that strengthen the higher education landscape.
During the visit, Mr. Jonathan Lembright, IIE Regional Director together with Mr. Justin Edward Modesto, Project Management Specialist, USAID Philippines met with DISP Scholars from Myanmar, taking Bachelor of Science in International Travel and Tourism Management, emphasizing the mutual commitment to their success. LPU-Batangas team on the other hand ensured that the academic progress of the DISP scholars will be properly monitored and will also share quarterly reports with IIE on their achievements.
In return, IIE committed to providing full funding for selected students and additional academic support, including virtual programming, to help DISP Scholars thrive. The visit also aimed to explore new avenues for collaboration, ensuring that both parties continue to support the scholars effectively.
This visit marked a significant step in fostering a stronger partnership between LPU-Batangas and IIE, with both institutions reaffirming their dedication to promoting diversity and inclusion in education.
