In Memoriam: 56th Death Anniversary of Jose P. Laurel
Today November 6, 2015 marks the 56th Death Anniversary of Jose P. Laurel, President of the Philippines under the Second Philippine Republic. Laurel served as Secretary of the Interior in 1923; senator of the 5th Senatorial District (Batangas, Mindoro, Tayabas, Cavite, and Marinduque) from 1925 to 1931; delegate to the 1934 Constitutional Convention; associate justice of the Supreme Court from 1936 to 1941; commissioner of justice from 1942 to 1943; and president of the 1943 Preparatory Committee on Philippine Independence. President Jose P. Laurel is also the founder of the Lyceum of the Philippines (now Lyceum of the Philippines University).
