On April 22 and 23, the Lyceum of the Philippines University-Batangas (LPU-B) hosted an important initiative aimed at merging education with environmental sustainability, the ECOVIP Business Plan Competition 2025. This event is not only a platform for innovative solutions but also an opportunity for students and LPU-B community members to engage with current challenges in ecotourism, particularly those affecting Batangas, a province renowned for its natural beauty. This is the second installation of the competition since its successful inception in 2024.

The kick-off event took place at the Academic Center of LPU-B on April 22, where participants and attendees gathered to embrace the ethos of the competition: sustainability in the ecotourism sector. The day promised a rich orientation session that introduced participants to the competition’s format and objectives while fostering a spirit of camaraderie and teamwork among the diverse group of competitors.

The following day, April 23, a special guest speaker, Ms. Vanessa Tolentino from the Batangas Provincial Tourism and Cultural Affairs Office (PTCAO) brought a wealth of experience in addressing the challenges that ecotourism sites in Batangas province face today. Her discussion on the economic and environmental hurdles encountered in the province was crucial for the participants. By examining these issues, participants can develop business solutions that are not only innovative but also sustainable, aiming to improve the current state of ecotourism in Batangas.

The discussion focused on various aspects of ecotourism, including environmental sustainability, community involvement, and the balancing act between tourism development and environmental conservation. By understanding these challenges, the participants can create business models and proposals that address real issues while providing valuable insights into running sustainable operations.

The ECOVIP Business Plan Competition 2025 invites all students across all disciplines to engage in discussions about sustainability and eco-friendliness. This inclusive approach allows individuals from various academic backgrounds and interested parties to collaborate, fostering a community-driven atmosphere.

By working together, participants will gain practical skills, insights, and knowledge that extend beyond the classroom. The competition aims to boost critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving abilities while embedding the principles of sustainability into the future leaders of the hospitality industry.
