The Association of Universities of Asia and the Pacific (AUAP) in partnership with Lyceum of the Philippines University-Batangas held the 5th AUAP English Speech Competition via Zoom, September 21-22, 2021.
The AUAP Speech Competition aims to provide participants with the opportunity to gain significant experience, showcase their skills, and discover personal aptitude. It was opened by Dr. Peter P. Laurel, AUAP President, and participated in by students from various universities across Asia, including Bangladesh, India, Philippines, Malaysia, and Thailand.
In the College category, more than 100 contestants representing different colleges and universities competed for the top three prizes. While the High School category was participated by 20 students from different secondary schools.
Mark Joshua D. Daquilpil from Philippine Science High School Administrative Region Campus bagged first place in the High School division Darla Charles Aguba from LPU-Batangas won second place, and Bienne Reese Yu from Chiang Kai Shek College came in third.
While in the college division, Pheniel Malchiah Garcia from Our Lady of Fatima University bagged first place, Matthew Ernest Paul of the National University of Malaysia and Srishti Khaiwar of Jagran Lakecity University tied for second place, and Erlyne Abbie Mendoza from LPU-Batangas landed third place.
This is the first for AUAP to hold a speech competition via the virtual platform. Contestants had to undergo an elimination round, another round to determine the top 15, and a final round to trim it down to the top 3. The next AUAP speech competition will be held in Bangkok in 2022. This event is also part of the 55th foundation activities of LPU Batangas.
