At LPU Batangas, we are dedicated to addressing poverty through education and community outreach programs. Through financial scholarships and grants, we ensure that education remains accessible to all, regardless of financial background. Additionally, our community poverty alleviation program includes initiatives such as the SHL Restoration Village (add inbound link) and various outreach projects aimed at empowering local communities through sustainable business training and support.
In line with our commitment to eradicate poverty, our initiatives extend beyond providing financial assistance. Through the SHL Restoration Village, we offer vocational training and employment opportunities to marginalized communities, empowering them to break the cycle of poverty. Furthermore, our community outreach projects focus on sustainable development, equipping individuals with the skills and resources needed to build resilient livelihoods and uplift their economic status.
SHL Restoration Village
This LPU housing project for the homeless started in 2006 in partnership with Gawad Kalinga. This is built on a 5.5 hectare property and was renamed as SHL Restoration Village. Over the years, through the commitment and collaboration of LPU stakeholders, there are now 60 houses in the property with the first few houses turned over in 2008. To make the project more sustainable, LPU continued to support the community by providing livelihood training programs. A day care center was also opened in 2013 on top of a multipurpose hall. Up to this date, LPU continues to help families living in the community majority of whom are already self-sufficient. LPU is committed to improving the project and is already looking for an area where a 2nd restoration village shall be built.
Community empowerment through business training and start-up business
The project’s goal is to provide comprehensive business education and help for starting new businesses to empower families in the communities from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. This program gives participants the necessary skills in market analysis, financial literacy, and entrepreneurship to establish long-term livelihoods. In order to give startup companies the tools they need to succeed and support regional economic development, the project also provides mentorship and financial access. This helps to lower poverty and promote inclusive growth. Student Council Financial Literacy Program
