LPU-Batangas strengthened its international engagement through a campus visit and academic exchange with Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HUTECH) in Vietnam, bringing together faculty members and students from both institutions for discussions on student development, leadership, and international collaboration.
The visit provided members of the LPU–Batangas community with an opportunity to engage with their Vietnamese counterparts and exchange perspectives on student support services, student organizations, and leadership development. The discussions also enabled students from both institutions to learn from one another and gain a deeper appreciation for cross-cultural perspectives. These activities support the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4: Quality Education, by promoting inclusive and holistic learning opportunities that extend beyond the classroom.
A key focus of the exchange was the role of student-led organizations in fostering leadership skills, social responsibility, and global competencies. As part of the visit, the LPU–Batangas delegation toured HUTECH’s Thu Duc Campus, allowing faculty members and students to experience the university’s learning environment and student spaces firsthand. The campus immersion complemented the academic discussions by providing the delegation with a broader perspective on student life and institutional practices in Vietnam.
The exchange of educational practices and experiences between the two institutions reflects the spirit of SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, which emphasizes the importance of strong partnerships in advancing sustainable development. Beyond the campus tour, the exchange fostered meaningful connections between Filipino and Vietnamese students. These interactions laid the groundwork for potential cultural exchanges, academic collaborations, student-led initiatives, and community-based activities involving both institutions. By encouraging dialogue and mutual understanding across cultures, the initiative also contributes to SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities, particularly by creating opportunities for students from different cultural and educational backgrounds to participate in inclusive international learning experiences.
For LPU–Batangas, international student engagement initiatives such as this support the University’s continuing efforts to provide Lyceans with opportunities to develop a broader global perspective. Exposure to different educational environments and cultures encourages students to engage with diverse viewpoints while strengthening skills that are increasingly valuable in an interconnected world. These experiences reinforce SDG 4: Quality Education by promoting lifelong learning, intercultural understanding, and the development of competencies needed to thrive in a global society. The exchange also underscores the value of international partnerships that extend beyond formal institutional agreements.
By creating opportunities for students to participate directly in cross-cultural learning and engagement, such partnerships help cultivate globally minded, socially responsible, and culturally aware students prepared to contribute meaningfully to an increasingly interconnected society. In this regard, the initiative advances SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals by strengthening institutional and people-to-people connections that can serve as a foundation for sustained collaboration and shared development.
The academic exchange with HUTECH marks another step toward building stronger connections between students and higher education institutions across the region, opening possibilities for future collaboration and creating more avenues for global learning and student engagement. Through meaningful interaction with their international peers, students can develop greater cultural awareness, adaptability, collaboration, and appreciation for diverse communities. As LPU–Batangas continues to expand its international network, initiatives such as the HUTECH visit support the University’s commitment to developing globally competitive Lyceans who are prepared to engage with different cultures, communities, and professional environments.
