One of the happiest memories of my teenage years was that moment when I got a letter from Lyceum of Batangas (now LPU) stating that I made it through their college entrance exam. I remember how elated I felt because it was a dream come true for me to be able to study in LPU. Needless to say, I had high hopes and expectations about how the school would impact me and my future.
Looking back now, I could say without a doubt that LPU exceeded such hopes and expectations. A large part of what I have become, most especially my constant drive for excellence to serve God and our country, is something that I owe to my Alma Mater.
It wasn’t just LPU’s adherence to academic excellence that made my stay there truly worthwhile. As importantly, their co- and extra-curricular programs were as significant because they honed my confidence and personality. As an AB Psychology student, I had the opportunity to initiate and participate in a host of school- and community-based activities that broadened my perspective and served as an eye-opener to social realities that I could be involved with and contribute a positive effect thereof. Among the most memorable engagements I had were being part of the school’s Performing Arts Guild and the Campus Ministry; the latter enabling me to be one of the delegates in the 1995 World Youth Day. And while there were moments of difficulties and challenges, the entire experience became very rewarding because it did not feel like just a school backing me up – it felt more like a caring and nurturing family.
What LPU has taught me made me fully prepared and equipped for what I now do as a professional in an academic institution. That never-ending drive to know more and learn more not only to manifest excellence but more importantly, to be of better service is a work ethic that has become deeply ingrained in me. At the back of my head, I would always think that if I could do my tasks with the same drive for excellence that I have been trained to always adhere to and if I could impart to my colleagues and our clients the significance of love, care, and kindness in the same degree that I have been given as a student at LPU, then I would have been able to give back and then I would know that I have done well. #ButiNaLangNagLyceumAko
