Rowena Coronel, RMT
BS Medical Technology 1990
Lead Clinical Laboratory Scientist, California, USA
When I enrolled in the BS Medical Technology course in Lyceum of Batangas (now LPU) back in May of 1986, I had no intention to finish my course in Batangas. I was planning then to transfer to Centro Escolar University after two years to be together with my siblings in one University. But that did not happen… I decided to stay and eventually finished my course at LPU with no regrets.
It was not an easy journey, but as it turned out, my college years in LPU was one of the greatest chapters of my life. I was not what you would call a model student, but I enjoyed every moment of it. We had many great quality professors, ranging from practicing doctors of medicine to professors with lengthy experience on their resumes. There was a balance between academics, sports, and cultural activities that I got to participate in. The last year of college, which was a 12-month internship from three different hospitals was the most challenging and rewarding experience. This was the peak of our learning curve. This is where we put the theories we learned from school into practice. I am so lucky to have rotation duty in some of the best hospital affiliations: Batangas Regional Hospital (now BatMC), Philippine Air Force Hospital in Pasay, and the National Orthopedic Hospital (now Philippine Orthopedic Center). It was then that I realized the importance of Medical Technology which I chose to pursue and felt pride and honor knowing that my future job plays a very important role in a patient’s treatment.
Right now, I am working as a Lead Clinical Laboratory Scientist here in California, USA for 14 years now.
I am one of the many proud Filipino Medical Technologists working here in the “Land of Milk and Honey”. Whatever I achieved in my life can be greatly attributed to all the educators I had all those years in LPU. I learned a lot not only from my professors but from all the people I came across during my college years. I made friends and connections that brought me to where I am now.
I will forever be grateful and proud of being an Alumna of this Institution! #ButiNaLangNagLyceumAko
