On November 17, 2024, Dr. Peter P. Laurel, President of the Lyceum of the Philippines University-Batangas (LPU-B), was awarded an Honorary Doctorate at the 9th Convocation Ceremony of Jagran Lakecity University (JLU) in Bhopal, the capital city of the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh. This prestigious recognition honored Dr. Laurel for his outstanding leadership in higher education and contributions to the field of entrepreneurship. His achievements have garnered international respect, making him a fitting honor recipient.
JLU, founded in 2013, has quickly become one of Central India’s leading institutions, known for its practice-based pedagogy and wide range of academic programs. It is part of the Dainik Jagran Group and is promoted by the Jagran Social Welfare Society (JSWS) set up in the year 1997 with the ideology and thought for social change of its Patron Late Shri Gurudev Gupta, which is led by Shri Hari Mohan Gupta, Chairman of JSWS and Chancellor of JLU. The university now offers over fifty (50) degree programs to more than 2,500 students from eight countries and almost all states of India.
The university has earned several accolades, including the “DIAMOND” rating by QS I-Gauge in 2021, and being ranked the 1st University in Madhya Pradesh and 30th in India by Education World. JLU has also been recognized as the “University of the Year” by the Government of Madhya Pradesh for five consecutive years and is the only university from Central India to participate in the ERASMUS+ programme under the Tuning India Project.
Dr. Laurel’s Honorary Doctorate was part of JLU’s 9th Annual Convocation, where degree certificates were also awarded to graduates from various programs, proving the global impact of his leadership and further strengthening the ties between LPU-B and JLU.
