LPU–Batangas and Megaworld Hotels & Resorts strengthened their academic-industry partnership through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) held at the University’s Main Campus on May 12, 2026.
The ceremonial signing marked a significant step toward expanding industry-based learning opportunities for students while fostering closer collaboration between higher education and the hospitality industry. Through the partnership, LPU–Batangas and Megaworld Hotels & Resorts will work together to provide learners with opportunities for practical training, professional development, and industry exposure.
The signing was led by Dr. Peter P. Laurel, President of LPU–Batangas, alongside University officials, and Cleofe C. Albiso, Managing Director of Megaworld Hotels & Resorts, together with representatives from the organization. Among those present were Mr. Arturo P. Boncato Jr., Ederlinda F. Decano, Gracia D. Delos Reyes, Head of People Management Maria Loleth G. So, Mario H. Justo Jr., Socrates S. Alvaro, and Avinash Menon.
The agreement formalizes a strategic academic-industry collaboration between LPU–Batangas and Global One Hotel Group, Inc., creating avenues for the University and the hospitality group to work together in developing industry-responsive learning opportunities. A key component of the partnership is the provision of student internships and on-the-job training opportunities in Megaworld Hotels & Resorts properties.
Through actual industry exposure, students will have opportunities to apply classroom-based knowledge in professional settings while developing skills and competencies relevant to the hospitality and tourism sectors. The collaboration will likewise support experiential learning programs and industry immersion activities, enabling students to gain firsthand exposure to hospitality operations and workplace practices. These initiatives are designed to strengthen the connection between academic learning and the competencies expected in the industry. In addition, the partnership provides opportunities for the development of specialized micro-credentials and certifications in hospitality and tourism.
These initiatives can complement students’ academic preparation by providing additional avenues to develop industry-relevant skills and strengthen their professional qualifications. Beyond career preparation, the partnership is anchored on the shared promotion of Filipino hospitality and culture. By bringing together academic and industry perspectives, the collaboration seeks to contribute to the development of hospitality professionals who understand both global industry standards and the distinct values of Philippine hospitality.
The partnership will also strengthen the implementation of the Sampaguita Project across LPU–Batangas campuses, reflecting the institutions’ shared commitment to sustainability, innovation, and transformative education. For LPU–Batangas, the MOU represents a continuing effort to establish meaningful partnerships with industry stakeholders and create learning environments that prepare students for the realities of the professional world.
The initiative further supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4: Quality Education, SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth, SDG 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure, and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals. As LPU–Batangas and Megaworld Hotels & Resorts move forward with the implementation of their partnership, the collaboration is poised to create further opportunities for experiential learning, professional development, cultural engagement, and industry immersion.
The collaboration also supports the University’s goal of developing industry-ready and globally competitive Lyceans. For students, the partnership opens opportunities to gain practical experience, engage with industry professionals, and develop competencies that can support their transition from academic life to professional careers. It also provides a platform for learners to better understand the evolving needs and opportunities within the hospitality and tourism industry.
Through meaningful academic-industry partnerships, LPU–Batangas continues to bridge classroom learning with professional practice, preparing Lyceans to contribute confidently and competently to the hospitality and tourism industry.
