Faculty members from Lyceum of the Philippines University-Batangas (LPU-B) actively participated in the Training of Trainers 1 (ToT1) hosted by the University of Alicante in Spain from September 30 to October 6, 2023. Representing the institution are Dr. Ma. Fe L. Menez, Dr. Alex D. Ylagan, and Dr. Hazel T. Venus, who engaged in a series of learning sessions centered on enhancing entrepreneurship and employability skills for tourism students and alumni.
The ToT1 forms part of the ECOViP (Ecovip Erasmus) initiative, formally known as Fostering Innovation and Entrepreneurship in Ecotourism to Support Sustainable Development in Vietnam and the Philippines. This project is co-funded by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union and aims to strengthen higher education institutions (HEIs) by promoting innovative, interdisciplinary ecotourism projects aligned with sustainable development goals.
During the first two days of training, participants were immersed in discussions and collaborative sessions on how universities can effectively support entrepreneurship and employability. Key highlights included strategies for integrating stakeholders in the design and implementation of master’s programs, insights into sustainable business practices through the case of a scuba diving enterprise, and in-depth discussions on tourism-related courses offered by the University of Alicante, including its UNESCO World Heritage-focused curriculum.
Through its active participation in ToT1, LPU-Batangas continues to strengthen its internationalization efforts and commitment to academic excellence, ensuring that its tourism programs remain responsive to global trends and industry needs.
