Lahing Batangan Dance Troupe (LBDT), the nationally and internationally acclaimed premiere folk dance group of Lyceum of the Philippines University – Batangas (LPU-B), brought pride not only to the university but also to the entire Philippines as it landed Third Placer (Cultural Minister Awardee) in the 7th Sabah International Folklore Festival (SIFF) held July 9 to 17, 2012 in Sabah, Malaysia. LBDT, a duly accredited proponent of the National Commission for the Culture and Arts (NCCA) and a Dangal ng Pilipinas Hall of Famer, served as the official Philippine representative.

Among the 18 participating countries – Czech Republic, Brunei Darussalam, Timur Leste, Finland, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Philippines, Poland, Thailand, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Papua New Guinea, Kuwait, Egypt, Nigeria, Taiwan and China – China, Nigeria and Philippines reigned supreme as 1st, 2nd and 3rd placers respectively. Thus, LBDT’s achievement is a manifestation of LPU-B’s relentless pursuit of excellence in the field of culture and arts, both locally and internationally.

SIFF was indeed a rare treat featuring rich heritages by the participating dance troupes.
