Lyceum of the Philippines University – Batangas is set to host the 20^th International Federation of Social Science Organizations (IFSSO) Conference themed “Social Science Perspective on Human Security”, November 18-20 this year.

Social scientists from more than 23 countries will convene and a total of 55 scientific papers anchored on the theme will be presented. Five papers will be selected as Best Papers and their authors will receive the SMI-IFSSO Prize for the Social Sciences including a Certificate of Award and a cash grant of USD 300 for each of the five recipients.

IFSSO has organized an Award Selection Committee that will review all of the papers and select the top five best papers.This Committee is composed of Dr. Jean-Christophe Gaillard of the University of Auckland, Dr. Robert Huish of Dalhousie University, and Dr. Nestor Castro of the University of the Philippines.Dr. Castro, also the IFSSO Secretary General, is the official representative of the IFSSO Executive Board in the said Committee.Only those paper presenters who have already submitted copies of their full papers to the IFSSO Secretariat will be eligible for the Prize.

The funds for the SMI-IFSSO Prize for the Social Sciences come from Sagittarius Mines, Inc. (SMI), a Philippine mining company that is operated by Xstrata Copper.A representative of SMI will be present during the IFSSO Conference to give the award.

Meanwhile, participating countries are: Thailand, United States, Indonesia, South Korea, Japan, Burkina Faso, Canada, China, Germany, Ghana, Hungary, Nigeria, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, Denmark, Egypt, Spain, Malaysia, Turkey, Vietnam, Brazil, Mexico and Philippines.
