CITHM rules 6th National Food Showdown

Over-all Champion. That’s Lyceum of the Philippines University – Batangas’ (LPU-B) as its College of International Tourism and Hospitality Management (CITHM) teachers and students bagged numerous awards in the 6th National Food Showdown’s two major categories.

 

LPU-B-CITHM landed Over-all Champion both in Bar and Dining Showdown – Professional Division and in Sweet Revenge – Student Division. Contributory to the Bar and Dining Showdown championship are: Joyce Cantos, Silver (Highest Ranking) in Cocktail Mixing; Maureen Mercado, Silver (Highest Ranking) in Napkin Folding; Billy Festijo, Bronze (Highest Ranking) in Edible Art; Aristeo Cueto, Bronze (Highest Ranking) in Floral Centerpiece; and Carlota Iponla, Bronze in Flambe.

 

Meanwhile, contributory to the Sweet Revenge championship are: Ian Escala, Gold (Highest Ranking) in Petite Four / Praline; Abigail Manalo, Gold (Highest Ranking) in Pastillas and Packaging; Melmayo Silva, Derick Anthony Serdena and Quinnie Aceveda, Silver in Creative Cake Decoration; Jeric Ryan Sanchez, Silver in Wedding Cake; Benedict Paul Ambida, Silver in Chocolate Showpiece; and John Dave Aquino, Silver in Cupcake.

 

LPU-B-CITHM also bagged awards in other categories’ contests: Sarah Dell de Claro and Stephanie Chong, Gold (Highest Ranking) in Happy Hour Appetizers; Leoncio Barlan and Robert Christopher Calayan, Silver (Highest Ranking) in Apprentice; Arra Kissaren Javier, Bronze in Main Course; Carlos Napoleon Blanco, Gold (Highest Ranking) in Napkin Folding; Jan Edward Panganiban, Diploma in Cocktail Mixing; and Hubert Marasigan, Diploma in The Filipino Carver.

 

These exemplary CITHM students are under the mentorship of their equally exemplary coaches – Mr. Leoncio Barlan Jr., Ms. Jeninah Christia Borbon, Mrs. Jovita Borbon, Ms. Joyce Cantos, Mr. Aristeo Cueto, Mr. Billy Festijo, Ms. Ma. Carlota Iponla, Mr. Ryan Mejia, Mrs. Ma. Fe Meñez, Ms. Maureen Mercado, Mr. Janzell Palbacal, Ms. Lhea Rasa and Mr. Joel Siman.

 

The said National Food Showdown achievements are one of the many laurels that LPU-B-CITHM has reaped this year like having the first HRM program in the Philippines that is awarded as Center of Excellence, having the first Tourism program in the Philippines that is awarded as Center of Development, and recommendation as an Associate Member with Pre-Accreditation Status of The International Centre of Excellence in Tourism and Hospitality Education (THE-ICE).

 

The 6th National Food Showdown took place at the World Trade Center, September 21-22, 2012.
